Like the work of artists, architecture is a self-portrait of the artist, in this case, the architect. Old buildings are an insight into the history and soul of a place, the society in which we live.

Another architectural delight designed by William Vahland in 1881, the same architect who designed the building on the right (out of frame), the Law Courts. The original drinking fountain was disassembled in 1906 to make way for the Discovery of Gold Jubilee monument in Pall Mall. Its parts were stored or used in various places and reunited in 2016. A very fitting monument for one man’s vision for the city and a testament to the resilience of its design.
